The A-Z of NRL Season 2013 - by Mary

Earlier this week in the SMH, Michael Chammas did an A-Z on the NRL Grand Final. You can check this story out here. I loved this concept so much that I thought I might do an A-Z on Season 2013.

A is for ASADA. The story that has dominated the NRL headlines

B is for the Burgess Boys.  I was delighted to see them on the Red Carpet for the Dally M's with their mum.

C is for Cooper Cronk - winner of the Dally M Medal for 2013.

D is for dry land fishing.  Josh Dugan should keep out of parked boats at night.

E is for eight - the number of ex-Parramatta players who will feature in this weekends Grand Final - including Jamie Buhrer and Dan Mortimer.

F is for financial viable - only 2 clubs in the NRL are self sufficient - Brisbane and North Queensland.

G is for Greg Inglis - who will no doubt have a huge impact on this weeks grand final.

H is for human error and haven't we seen a lot of them! The standard of refereeing will certainly need to improve next year if the game wants to keep expanding.

I is for Israel Folau. There was much speculation that he would be coming back to Rugby League next year - thankfully, not.

J is for Joe Galuvao who will miss this weeks Grand Final because of an Achilles tendon rip, which he suffered in Round 6.

K is for Kieran Foran. Partnered with Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves for this weekends Grand Final, both men will need to step up if the Sea Eagles are to topple the Roosters.

L is for losing. The NRL is losing some tremendous players at the end of the year including Scott Prince, Shaun Berrigan, Steve Turner, Ben Ross, Joe Galuvao, Jason Ryles, Danny Buderus, Dallas Johnson, Matt King, Matt Cooper and Nathan Fien.

M is for Matt Cooper - see above.

N is for Nathan Merritt who finally made his State of Origin debut this year.

O is for Origin, State of Origin that is. Many words spring to mind about this years series including Queensland dominance and... streaker!

P is for the Parramatta Eels - back to back wooden spooners.

Q is for Queensland dominance. Enough said. Q could also possibly be for anti-Queensland conspiracy. But this blog is dedicated to things that actually exist.

R is for Ricky Stuart. The coach that sacked over half a dozen Eels players mid season, took the team to their second wooden spoon in a row and then left the Club after only completing one year of his contract.

S is for Sonny Bill Williams - the Roosters superstar this year and Channel 9's poster boy. Let's see if he can inspire the Roosters to a 2013 Grand Final win.

T is for Thugby League - a nickname I wish NRL didn't have.

U is for underdogs. In the Finals series this year the Newcastle Knights were certainly the underdogs. It was wonderful to see them perform so admirably.

V is for violence. We have certainly had some incidents this year, the most horrible though being the Penrith Waratahs and Western Sydney Tigers brawl.

W is for Waterhouse. Tom Waterhouse. Has an individual ever received so much dislike in the opening weeks of an NRL season?

X is for (apologies to Michael Chammas for stealing his X) - X Factor. Sorry to bring him up more than Channel 9, but I feel like Sonny Bill Williams will be the X Factor this weekend.

Y is for yesterday. It only seems like yesterday that I was eagerly awaiting the start of another NRL season. It is sad to see it end for another year.

Z is for zero. The Cronulla Sharks have still won zero Premierships.

Love,

@LadiesWhoLeague
