Hopefully Not Another Manic Monday - By Hayley

It's that time of year when players finish their last game, dress up as something absolutely ridiculous and go missing for a few days drinking. Then they drink some more. It's known as Mad Monday. It's actually not just restricted to Monday, it lasts about a week. Personally, I'm not sure how they do it. The last thing I want to do after a big night out is do it all over again!

Mad Monday is a tradition that has lived for many years. Many have called for this tradition to be banned due to the many incidents that have occurred during Mad Monday. I'm of the view that Mad Monday is fine so long as the players are kept away from the public. I think it's also in the players & clubs best interest to have a minder there throughout the day to make sure things don't get too out of control.

After a long hard season, the players should be able to let their hair down & have some fun. It's not a place for fans and it's not a place for the media. Last year the Bulldogs tried to do the right thing by staying inside Belmore Stadium. Then the media showed up & things got a little out of hand. Now I'm not condoning what the players did, they did do the wrong thing. My issue is with the helicopters they had flying over to get footage. They know the players are going to be wasted and are just waiting for them to make a wrong move. I understand people want to see pictures of the silly costumes but having helicopters flying over is a little extreme.

If everyone just let them be, I'm sure we wouldn't have any incidents. I know some people have the view that these players are professional sportsmen and get paid a lot of money so they need to just deal with it. At the end of the day, they are just young men and still like to do the things normal young men like to do. Can't they just be normal for one week?

At the end of the day it is up to the individuals and clubs to be accountable for their own actions and reduce any risks, however the media also need to stay away and let them enjoy their day...or week.

Let's hope all clubs can get through the end of year celebrations without any controversy this year!

Love,

@LadiesWhoLeague
